WSU Academic Services Announces May Student-Athletes of the Month

Men's golf's Grant Cole and women's track and field's Chrisshnay Brown have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State men's golf's Grant Cole and women's track and field's Chrisshnay Brown have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for May 2019.

A senior on the golf team, Cole is on track to graduate at the end of the summer with a degree in accounting, for which he also tutors, and a minor in sport management. He holds a 3.37 GPA and has received several academic awards, including 2018 Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention and has been named to the WSU Athletics All-Academic team, as well as the President's Honor Roll. On the course, Cole improved his average by over two strokes from his sophomore to junior season, earning him the team's lowest scoring average in 2018. He played in all of WSU's tournaments this season with his best finish of 14th coming Feb. 12, 2019 at the Anteater Invitational. Cole has been involved with SAAC, as emcee for the 2017 Cougar Sports Awards while also speaking as the student-athlete representative at the at the 37th Annual Senior Recognition Luncheon. 

A senior on the track and field team, Brown is majoring in criminal justice, with a minor in Spanish. The owner of a 3.12 GPA, Brown has been named to the WSU Athletics All-Academic team three times, as well as the MPSF Indoor Academic All-Conference team in 2017. Brown spear-headed the efforts to get internet access in the Bohler Gym locker rooms, as she presented to the ASWSU Technology Committee, requested funding. Brown has attended the ASWSU Multicultural Dinner as an athletics representative, and was featured in the 2019 WSU Athletics Black History Month video. Earlier in May, Brown was presented with the Rob Oviatt and David Lang Strength and Conditioning Award, given to one male and one female senior student-athlete who possess great commitment to training, are accountable, lead by example and show an overall improvement in the weight room. On the field, she is third all-time in WSU history in the shot put and has five total individual wins during the 2019 outdoor season (shot put – 4, discus – 1). Brown placed 13th in the shot put at the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

Each Month Washington State Academic Services will honor a male and female student-athlete that demonstrates commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
