FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington State swim team finished the Pac-12 Last Chance Invite Sunday. The invite was one final chance for swimmers competing to earn a spot in either the CSCAA or NCAA National Invitational. After a hardworking four days at the Pac-12 Championships, the Cougars completed the conference championships with a score of 284.5 – just ahead of Oregon State.
Freshman Lauren Burckel continued her success in the pool for the Cougars, hitting a lifetime best in the 100 breast. The Albuquerque, N.M. native clocked a 1:02.98 in the preliminary rounds for the ninth-fastest time in program history, before turning around and clocking a 1:02.66 in the finals to move up to eighth in the WSU Top-10.
Burckel and the rest of the Cougars will compete once more at the CSCAA National Invite. The CSCAA National Invite provides Division I swimmers and divers that have achieved NCAA "B" and Zone Standards, but are not selected for the NCAA Division I Championships a chance to compete in the post-season.
The CSCAA National Invite begins Mar. 14 and runs to Mar. 16 in Cleveland, Ohio.
