Two Goals From Gomera-Stevens Help WSU Stay Perfect
September 14, 2018 | Soccer
The Cougs improved to 6-0-0 with a 3-1 win over Montana.
PULLMAN, Wash. – Dominating in the attacking third of the field, the No. 16 ranked Washington State soccer team (6-0-0) defeated the Montana (1-5-2), 3-1, Friday night at Lower Soccer Field. Sophomore Makamae Gomera-Stevens started the game off with a back, drilling a sniper shot just 1:57 into the game after shaking free from her defenders 20 yards from goal. Just getting started the Kapolei, Hawaii native struck again in the 34' minute when  Maddy Haro sent a perfect square ball to the top of the box and Gomer-Stevens again took a touch past a defender and sent it to the upper-90 just out of the keeper's reach. After giving back a goal to Montana off a turnover in the midfield, the Cougars put the game away for good when senior Maegan O'Neill came up with the insurance goal halfway through the second half, converting a header in the 70' off a corner from Haro. The goal was the second-straight game the Cougar seniors connected in the box, sealing the deal for the Cougars and sending the fans from Lower Soccer Field home happy with another WSU victory.
