PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State was called for a balk in the 13
th inning, allowing the eventual game-winning run to score for a 3-2 Gonzaga win at Bailey-Brayton Field Tuesday evening.

WSU (15-28-1) received a three-hit performance from
Ryan Ramsower and
James Rudkin hit a solo home run for the Cougars who saw starter
Collin Maier pitch 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two for his best outing as a Cougar. Gonzaga improved to 27-21 after tying the game with two runs in the eighth inning before scoring the go-ahead run on a balk in the 13
th. The Bulldogs left 18 runners on base while WSU left 16 and put runners on second base in eight of the 13 innings.

In the third inning, the Cougars loaded the bases after singles from
Dillon Plew and
Andres Alvarez and
Blake Clanton later drew a two-out walk. Gonzaga make a pitching change and ended the threat with a long fly out by
JJ Hancock who drove one to the warning track in right field but the Bulldog rightfielder was there for the catch.

In the fourth inning, Rudkin led off the inning with a solo homer to left field for a 1-0 Cougar lead.
Danny Sinatro followed with a walk and moved around to third base after a perfectly executed hit-and-run to put runners on the corners.
Cal Waterman stepped in and brought home Sinatro with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a 2-0 advantage.

In the eighth inning, Gonzaga turned a leadoff walk into a run on a RBI-single and later tied the game after a hit-by-pitch led to another RBI-single and a tie game, 2-2.

In the bottom of the inning, the Cougars put two runners on after Gonzaga errors but a double play and ground out ended the threat, stranding a runner at third.

In the bottom of the ninth, Plew singled with two outs and Alvarez followed with an opposite field double down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Gonzaga ended the threat with a strikeout, sending the games into extra innings.

In the 13
th inning, Gonzaga used a leadoff hit-by-pitch, a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch before WSU reliever
Michael Newstrom was called for a balk and the go-ahead run was allowed to score.

In the bottom of the inning,
Jack Smith singled through the right side and was bunted to second base by Waterman. Plew drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out but Gonzaga got the next two Cougar hitters to fly out to right field and pop out first base to end the games.
