March 06, 2018 | Women's Golf
The Cougars' ace came up with her second-straight top-10 finish.
FAIRFAX, Calif. - Continuing her stellar play to start the spring half of the Cougars' season, senior Alivia Brown came up with her second-straight top-10 finish, this time at the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate in Fairfax, Calif. With Brown at the lead, the Cougars finished the short 36-hole, 16-team, event in seventh place on Tuesday, March 6. Teams were originally scheduled to play 54 holes, but were only able to play two rounds due to early morning frost that delayed the start of play on both Monday and Tuesday.
"The Meadow Club is a course that requires a lot of physical and mental discipline," said head coach Kelli Kamimura. "The greens are very undulating and fast and it was important to plan where you wanted to place your approach shots for the best scoring opportunities. We gave a few shots up at different points during the week, but all in all played solid. The team continues to improve and grow mentally and physically and work hard to get one day better everyday. We are looking forward to using practice this week to tighten up a few things before we leave for Hawaii on Saturday."
Additionally, Kamimura added, "Alivia had another great week at Meadow Club. She played very consistent all week and did a great job of staying patient and giving herself opportunities. I am proud of her commitment to the process and her tireless work ethic."
Brown pushed her way into the top-10 on the final day, closing the two-day event in a tie for sixth overall thanks to a a two-under finish Tuesday afternoon. Brown was flawless in her second trip around the course, carding 16 pars while knocking home a pair of birdies to finish in the red. Her 70 on Tuesday afternoon gave her a one-under finish with a two-round total of 143 as she moved her way up the leaderboard Tuesday afternoon from 14th to sixth.Â

A few errant shots late in her day proved costly as the young Cougar came in three-over on the back nine to finish the round with a 75(+3).
Â
Junior Madison Odiorne closed out the day with a 78(+6). Odiorne tied for 41st, with an overall score of 152(+8).
