PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State rowing team rowed in four fall regattas; the Burnaby Lake 4-Kilometer, the Head of the Spokane, the Portland Fall Classic and closed its season at a regatta against Gonzaga and Oregon State on Nov. 3, 2018.
"I think they've been feeling improvements, and I think when you feel like you're getting better, you know that your time is being well spent," said head coach

In Burnaby, British Columbia, on Oct. 6, the team had seven pairs compete in the women's coxless pairs 4-kilometer flight and four individuals race in the women's single sculls. WSU placed three pairs in the final 250-meter sprint. Sophomore

Ivy Elling Quaintance won the 4-kilometer time trial and title of Regatta Champions by winning the sprint. It marked the first time a WSU crew won the time trial and Elling Quaintance's third-straight sprint victory.
In Spokane, Wash., at the Head of the Spokane, the Cougars sent two varsity eight teams, two varsity four teams, two novice eight teams, and three pairs. WSU's varsity eight and second varsity eight earned first and second place respectively. The varsity four earned first place with a time of 18:31. The second varsity four followed Gonzaga's varsity four to place third with a time of 19:32. WSU's pair C earned second place with a time of 20:20. WSU's pair A and B earned fourth and fifth respectively. WSU's second novice eight and novice eight secured first and second place ahead of both Gonzaga's novice boats.
In Portland, Ore., at the Portland Fall Classic, WSU sent two varsity eight boats and four varsity four boats. The Cougars' varsity four captured first place while the second varsity four boat earned third. The third and fourth varsity four boats placed first and second respectively in their heat. The varsity eight followed Portland and Oregon State to capture third. The second varsity eight earned second place behind Oregon State's second varsity eight.
In Spokane, Wash., at the regatta against Gonzaga and Oregon State, the Cougars sent four varsity eight boats and two novice eight boats. The varsity eight tied for first place with Oregon State's varsity eight boat each earning a time of 16:21. The second varsity eight team secured first place in their heat followed by Oregon State and Gonzaga. The third and fourth varsity eight boats took third and fourth with times of 17:25 and 17:32 respectively. Both the novice eight and second novice eight secured first place in each of their flights against Gonzaga's novice boats.
WSU's rowing team will resume competition in the spring beginning Sunday, March 24 at Oregon State.
