PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State sophomore Michaela Bayerlova will begin the 2018-19 season No. 17 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings, released Tuesday. The ranking is the highest by a Cougar tennis player in program history.
Bayerlova, from Krumbach, Germany, finished her 2018 season ranked No. 29 after a tremendous freshman campaign which saw her post a 28-6 overall record, becoming the first WSU player to reach the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship.
An All-Pac-12 Conference first team selection, her 2017-18 season included eight wins over nationally-ranked players, two Pac-12 Player of the Week honors, and a 20-match winning streak to begin her career, the second-longest streak in school history. She also led Washington State to a 21-7 record, the most wins in school history.
Bayerlova begins her 2018 fall season at the Oracle/ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif., Sept. 20.
