PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic achievement during the 2017-2018 season. Additionally, student-athletes Michaela Bayerlova and Aneta Miksovska were also recognized for their academic accomplishments.
During the 2017-18 season, the Cougars earned a 3.36 team grade point average, as the team earned the ITA Academic Award for the 12th consecutive season. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Individual ITA Scholar-Athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA.
Bayerlova, a rising sophomore from Krumbach, Germany, concluded her freshman year with a 3.63 GPA with an interest in studying data analytics. Playing at the top of the WSU lineup, she posted a 28-6 overall record and reached the second round of the 2018 NCAA Singles Championship. She ended the season ranked No. 29 nationally, the highest year-end ranking by a Cougar player in school history. An All-Pac-12 Conference first team selection, her season included eight wins over nationally-ranked players, two Pac-12 Player of the Week honors, and a 20-match winning streak to begin her career, the second-longest streak in school history. She also led Washington State to a 21-7 record, the most wins in school history.
Miksovska, a rising-senior from Stramberk, Czech Republic, completed this season with a 3.71 grade point average while studying sport science. She posted a 24-10 singles record this season, playing at both the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. She had three match-clinching wins on the season, along with victories over No. 21 Oregon and No. 41 USC, the first win over the Trojans in program history. Miksovska also posted a 34-6 doubles record. This is her third year being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
