SAN FRANCISCO – Washington State's Aneta Miksovska was named to the 2018 Pac-12 Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic First Team, highlighting three Cougar student-athletes recognized on all-academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.
In addition to Miksovska, senior Barbora Michalkova was named to the second team while sophomore Melisa Ates garnered honorable mention accolades.
Miksovska, a junior from Stramberk, Czech Republic, completed this season with a 3.85 grade point average while studying sport science. She posted a 24-10 singles record this season, playing at both the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. She had three match-clinching wins on the season, along with victories over No. 21 Oregon and No. 41 USC, the first win over the Trojans in program history. Miksovska also posted a 34-6 doubles record.
Michalkova, a senior from As, Czech Republic, concluded her Cougar career with a 3.55 GPA as a sport management major. Playing mainly at No. 4 and 5, she posted a 25-11 singles record as she was named the ITA Northwest Region Most Improved Senior. She posted 13 more singles victories than 2017, which included a win over Stanford's Emily Arbuthnott, the nation's 42nd-ranked player.
Ates, a sophomore from Antalya, Turkey, is studying computer science and boasts a 3.36 GPA. Playing mainly at No. 6, she posted a 26-7 singles record, including a team-best 5-1 in Pac-12 play. She was the only Cougar to defeat Cal twice this season, picked up the lone singles win against Washington, and was the only player not to lose two consecutive matches all season.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be a starter or significant contributor.
