Two sets or three, two hours or three, all options are on the table when Washington State tennis player Tiffany Mylonas steps on the court.

The junior transfer from Brussels, Belgium takes pride in the way she approaches each match she plays. Mylonas steps on the court for every match hoping to outlast her opponent, both mentally and physically.

"I'm just grinding four meters behind the baseline, and I will do whatever it takes to beat my opponent," Mylonas said. "Every time I step on the court I will be out there as long as possible to get the win."

Winning at any sport is as much mental as it is physical, and Mylonas is a perfect example of that. She has proven she has the talent to take matches in straight, 6-0 sets, but also grinds out tough matches when she needs to.

That was never more evident than during WSU's 4-1 victory over North Texas. After dropping a close first set to her opponent, Minying Liang, Mylonas grinded out the next two sets to help clinch the win for the Cougars.

"She is willing to win however it takes," WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "She's willing to win ugly, she's willing to change her game, she's willing to do whatever she needs to do to win that day."

Mylonas' willingness to win has definitely appeared on the court to start the 2017-18 season. She currently boasts a 21-3 singles record on the season, including her 14-match winning streak. On top of that, she has won 21 of the 23 doubles matches she has been involved in.

The Brussels native's contributions have helped push the Cougars to a 10-1 overall record, including a 7-0 win over Purdue, who defeated WSU 6-1 last season.

Her strong performance to start the season should come as no surprise. Mylonas is coming off a 30-5 sophomore season for ULM after which she earned second team All-Louisiana honors  for the second straight season.

The junior transfer praised the team environment at WSU. Mylonas said all of her coaches and teammates are nice and were one of the main reasons she decided to transfer to Washington State over an offer from Oregon.

"When I visited WSU, I really liked the girls on the team," Mylonas said. "They were really friendly, and the coaches as well."

Mylonas and the Cougars play four more non-conference dual matches before opening Pac-12 play at Oregon, Sunday, March 11.
