Cougar Swimming Falls to Utah in Final Regular Season Meet

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Washington State University swimming team fell to Utah Saturday, 187-75, snapping a three-meet winning streak against the Utes. The Cougars posted top-3 finishes in 11 events and received wins from freshman Emily Cook and junior Jasmine Margetts in the final meet of the regular season.
 
Cook recorded 13 individual points for the Cougars with a victory in the 50 back and a second place finish in the 100 back. Cook's win in the 50 back puts her at eight individual wins in her rookie campaign. Cook was also a member of the second place 200 Medley Relay. The team of Cook, Linnea Lindberg, Anna Brolin, and Alba Fores clocked in at 1:44.41. Margetts improved to 11 wins this season with a first place finish in the 100 fly, her first in the event for the season. Margetts also took home a fourth place finish in the 100 back.
 
Senior Rachel Thompson placed second in two individual events; touching the wall in 52.29 in the 100 free and 1:52.00 in the 200 free. Thompson was also a member of the second-place 200 Free Relay. Alongside teammates Chloe Larson, Fores, and Kelly Morgan, the team clocked in at 1:36.15 for the fourth-fastest relay time this season. Fores also recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free, clocking in at 24.21.
 
Sophomore Ryan Falk recorded two third place finishes. Falk touched the wall in 1:53.76 in the 200 free and 5:04.01 in the 500 free. Also recording third-place finished were Linnea Lindberg and Taylor McCoy. Lindberg clocked in at 29.34 in the 50 breast and McCoy clocked in at 4:32.58 in the 400 IM.
 
The Cougars will travel to Federal Way, Wash. for the Pac-12 Conference Championships Feb. 21-24.
