Dear Cougar Family:

Today, I begin my journey as your Director of Athletics and I am overwhelmed by the warmth, enthusiasm and passion of the Washington State family.  As I mentioned at my introductory announcement, I am truly honored and humbled to serve our university.

I came to Pullman to be part of something special under the leadership of President Schulz.  His vision for what our institution can become is inspiring and it is incumbent upon our Department of Athletics to do our small part in elevating Washington State.  We must strengthen the bonds between athletics and academia and we must earn the goodwill and support of our campus community through our actions and our values.  Our student-athletes and coaches must be a source of pride for Cougars everywhere and I will do my part to make sure we compete and act with integrity and class.

In the coming weeks and months, I will be traveling around the state—and nation—to meet with as many alumni, supporters and fans as I can, to not only introduce myself but, more importantly, to listen.  Listen to the stories of connection to Pullman and Washington State.  Listen to thoughts of what our athletics department does well and where we can improve.  Listen to voices young and old about what comes next.  When you see me on campus or at a sporting event, or in your hometown, please come introduce yourself and share your Washington State passion with me.

My mother and father came to America in 1969 with an incredible work ethic and a commitment to education, and their values are my values.  While I cannot guarantee national titles—yet, I can promise you that no one will be working harder on behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and supporters.  We have a proud athletics history on the Palouse and we must recognize those who came before us while focusing on those here and those still to come, for excellence is within our grasp.

On behalf of my wife, Natalie, and our three beautiful daughters, Vanna, Kennedy and Gretta, thank you for welcoming us to the WSU Family and for entrusting me to lead our tremendous team of student-athletes, coaches and staff. Together, we will do great things and I am thrilled to get started!

Go Cougs!

Sincerely,
