PULLMAN, Wash. – In a nearly flawless 90 minutes of play, the Washington State soccer team dominated CSUN, 3-0, Friday evening at Lower Soccer Field in their lone contest of the weekend. In what was as close to perfection as the Cougars (4-1-1) could play, WSU allowed just one shot over the course of the contest to the previously unbeaten Matadors (2-1-4) to grab their fifth shutout of the season in six contests. With the defense locked in, the Cougs' offense had free rein to pepper the over-matched Matador defense with shots.
Morgan Weaver scored the game-winner just six minutes into the contest after finishing off a deflected shot from freshman
Makamae Gomera-Stevens. Gomera-Stevens wasted little time getting one of her own just over one minute later while freshman
Brianna Alger finished off the onslaught with a strike in the 50'.
Coach's Quote Of The Match
"It was a great defensive effort, you look at the stats, one shot on goal by a very good team that's had some good results. It's not just our backline or our goalkeeping, though they are fantastic, and I've said that all year, but our defense starts up front. Across the board, to allow them to have just one shot on goal is pretty impressive. We'll take it."
