ABOUT THE MATCHUPS
For the first time in a planned annual event WSU will host the Cougar Classic this weekend with Nebraska, Georgia Southern, and Montana coming to Lower Soccer Field...The Cougs will take on Nebraska and Georgia Southern while Montana will take on the pair as well prior to WSU's games...The Cougs have never faced either Nebraska or Georgia Southern...Two weeks later WSU will head to Missoula to take on Montana in the final non-conference game of the 2017 season.
LAST TIME OUT
A 41' strike by Grace Hancock put the Cougs ahead heading into halftime, but two second half goals by Santa Clara (2-2) changed the day as the Broncos downed Washington State (1-1-1), 2-1, Sunday afternoon...The Broncos broke through what had been an impenetrable Cougar defense just three minutes into the second half before scoring the game winner in the 75'...Previously, the Cougs grabbed their first win of the season with 1-0 shutout of Saint Mary's Friday night...Maddy Haro tallied the game-winner for WSU in the 28' with a strike from the penalty spot after freshman Sydney Pulver was tripped up in the box.
ABOUT THE HUSKERS
Nebraska is ranked #14 after a perfect 4-0 start to the season outscoring their opposition 12-1...The Huskers opened their home season with a pair of shutout wins last weekend. NU downed South Dakota, 3-0, on Friday, Aug. 25 before notching a 3-0 win over Missouri on Sunday, Aug. 27...Sophomore forward Elyse Huber scored three of Nebraska's six goals during the first weekend of the season, as the Huskers defeated Kansas and Tulsa...Huber earned the first United Soccer Coaches Player-of-the-Week award for the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer season on Aug. 22.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern is 2-1-1 entering the weekend...Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Karinshak was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week...Karinshak finished the weekend with a 1-0-1 record, earning her second and third clean-sheets of the season. She made 12 saves in the 0-0 double overtime draw with Kennesaw State on Friday. She made two saves in the 3-0 victory Sunday against Siena...Offensively, four different players have scored for the Eagles.
