Alivia Brown Selected to NCAA Regionals for Second Time

Brown advanced to the NCAA Championships after placing sixth at the West Regional as a freshman in 2015.

INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time in three years, junior Alivia Brown of the Washington State University women's golf team has been selected to compete as an individual at the NCAA Division I Women's Regionals, as she will compete at the Lubbock Regional, May 8-10, at the Rawls Course at Lubbock, Texas, the NCAA Women's Golf Committee announced Thursday.

"I just think Alivia is an exemplary student-athlete," WSU head coach Kelli Kamimura said. "She works so hard and does well on the golf course, but also has success in the classroom, so it's nice to see her accomplishments recognized. We always look forward to going to NCAAs, it's exciting Alivia gets to go. With our team mindset it's 'one shot at a time'. She'll go out there and play her best. She's playing well right now and we hope for a great event."

Brown is the only Cougar to appear in an NCAA Regional since 2007 when Washington State competed as a team in the West Regional in St. George, Utah May 10-12. The Cougars finished 11th in a 21-team field in the regional, firing a 913, just missing out on the national championships by six strokes. Prior to 2007, the Cougars' last individual to receive an invite to the regional competition was Tasha Browner during the 2000-01 season. Brown becomes the first Cougar to be selected to multiple NCAA Regionals as an individual, and is just the fourth Cougar to be selected as an individual.

At the 2015 NCAA West Regional at St. George, Utah, then a freshman, Brown competed as an individual, firing a three-round score of 6-over par (219), to place sixth and become the first Cougar in school history to qualify as an individual for the NCAA National Championships.

A native of Gig Harbor, Wash., Brown led WSU this season, averaging 73.65 strokes per round – on pace to be the lowest season scoring average for the Cougars in school history. Under Kamimura, WSU maintained a scoring average of 298.00, the second-lowest scoring average for a Cougar women's golf team on record.

The NCAA Division I Women's West Regional begins Monday, May 8 at Lubbock, Texas, with the event's top finishers advancing to the NCAA Championships, May 19-24, at Rich Harvest Farms, at Sugar Grove, Ill., hosted by Northern Illinois University.
