Cougs Put The Finishing Touches On The 2016-17 WBB Season

A final review of the 2016-17 season.

WASHINGTON STATE IN THE REGULAR SEASON
- The Cougars finished the regular season with a 12-18 overall record, including a 6-12 mark in Pac-12 Conference play earning a tie for 7th after being picked to finish 10th in the preseason.
- Most recently, WSU split its final regular-season series, falling to Utah, 74-57, Thursday before defeating Colorado, 67-56, Saturday on senior day.
- The Cougars lost six games this season that were decided by two possessions (six points) or less or in overtime. Washington State defeated one nationally-ranked opponent this season, upsetting #9/7 UCLA, 82-73, on Jan. 6 in the program's biggest upset ever.
- WSU earned a spot in the WNIT thanks to their 7th place finish in the Pac-12.

COUGS RUN THEIR WAY INTO THE WNIT FINAL FOUR
- After making the postseason for just the fourth time in the modern NCAA era, the Cougs proved to be a tough out as WSU won four in a row, their longest streak of the year, to advance to the semifinals of the WNIT.
- The wins for the Cougs in the first four rounds marked WSU's first-ever post season victories (in the modern NCAA era). Three times prior the Cougs played in the opening round of the NCAA (1991) and the WNIT (2014, 2015) only to fall short.
- The Cougars earned the conference's automatic bid into the postseason tournament thanks to their seventh place finish in the standings. With the Pac-12 earning a record seven bids to the Big Dance, the Cougars became the conference's first team out making them the first team into the WNIT. The bid into the WNIT marks the third time in the last four seasons the Cougars advanced to the postseason tournament.

MOLINA AND HAILEY GARNER ALL-PAC-12 RECOGNITION
- Freshman Chanelle Molina and junior Caila Hailey received All-Pac-12 honors as voted on by the conference's 12 coaches.
- Despite playing just six conference games, Molina made her mark in the minds of the Pac-12's coaches as she was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
- Hailey continued to be recognized as one of the conference's top defenders as she received an honorable mention to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team for the second-straight season.

KMETOVSKA LEAVES HER LASTING MARK AT WSU
- The Cougars' lone senior, Ivana Kmetovska put the finishing touches on her four-year career by leading a young, injury-riddled, team to their first-ever postseason victories. Not happy with just one win, Kmetovska helped push the Cougs to four wins in the 2017 WNIT, running their way to the Final Four to tie for 3rd in the national tournament.
- Kmetovska became the first Cougar player to reach the postseason three times in her career, playing her way into the WNIT in 2014, 2015, and 2017.
- Her 64 wins are the most for any senior during a four-year career in program history.
- She saved the best for last as Kmetovska was one of eight Cougs to play in a record 36 games in her final season while starting 23 contests, she scored 8.3 ppg while shooting a team best 44.5% (136-283), posting 13 double-digit scoring games including four in the last six contests.
