Cougar Swimming Finishes Day Two at Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Senior Addisynn Bursch broke the school record in the 200 IM as the Washington State swim team completed the second day of competition at the Pac-12 Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. The Cougars are in eighth place with 148 points.

In the 200 IM preliminaries, Bursch clocked a time of 1:59.34, breaking the school record she set last year at the Pac-12 Championships by 0.53 seconds. In the finals, the Spokane, Wash., finished 15th with a 1:59.51 to earn the Cougars 12 points. This time qualified as an NCAA 'B' Standard time.

"Addie (Addisynn Bursch) had a great day today," WSU Head Coach Tom Jager said. "Breaking her own 200 IM record in the morning and then coming back with a great swim at night. She is a tough and disciplined swimmer. It is fun to watch her swim."

Freshman Ryan Falk clocked her fastest 500 free time in the preliminaries, touching the wall in 4:52.46, good for the sixth fastest time in WSU history.

Two other Cougars clocked career-best times in the 200 IM. Freshman Luci Brock finished the 200 IM with a 2:08.96, while sophomore Taylor Shewchuk finished just behind at 2:10.67.

Junior Anna Brolin clocked a personal-best finish in the 50 free with a 23.43, just 0.05 seconds away from breaking into the WSU record books. Freshman Angela Mavrantza also notched a career-best time in the 50 free, touching in 29.19.

WSU closed the day with a seventh place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of junior Hannah Bruggman, Bursch, senior Anna Rosen and Brolin set the season best time at 1:31.63, tallying 46 points for the Cougars.

"Our sprint relay team swam great tonight with great turns and finishes in order to have a great race," Jager said. "We are looking forward to tomorrow. Go Cougs!"

Through seven events, Stanford is the current leader at 546 points followed by California (490) and Arizona (376).

The Cougars return action tomorrow for the third day of the Pac-12 Championships. Friday's events include the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley relay.
