WSU fell back on its defensive toughness when the shots would not fall.

BOISE, ID. – With the rust of a 12 day layoff showing on the offensive end, the Cougars (6-5) fell back on their defensive toughness to win the day at Boise State (5-4) Monday night as Washington State came up with a 61-53 road win over the Broncos at Taco Bell Arena. In the final minutes of the game, the Cougs turned up their intensity on the defensive end of the court, holding the Broncos to just one made free-throw in the final 2:52 to pull away. While locking down defensively, the Cougs finished off the victory from the line by hitting 6-of-6 freebies in the final :20 seconds of the game. The final four points went to Louise Brown as the redshirt-junior sealed the deal on both ends of the court while posting her second double-double in the last four games with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Things You Need To Know

The win for WSU tied the all-time series with the Broncos at 19-19 and 8-8 in Boise.
Louise Brown's double-double was her fourth of her career and second in four games. She missed the Cougs' game against the Broncos last season after suffering what would be a season-ending.
Borislava Hristova led the Cougs in scoring for the ninth time in 11 games while scoring in double-figures for the 10th time with a game-high 13 points. In addition to her points, Hristova grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.
In addition to Hristova and Brown, Alexys Swedlund netted 11 points as the Cougs put three in double-figures.
The Cougs grabbed 50 rebounds for the second time on the year and first time since notching 52 against East Tennessee State on Nov. 25.
Boise State put two in double-figures with Shalen Shaw and A'Shanti Coleman tying Hristova for the game high with 13 points.
As a team, WSU held Boise State to just 30.8% (20-65) shooting. WSU went 21-of-65 (32.3%) from the field.
WSU closes out non-conference play Friday, Dec. 22 at Nebraska. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. (PT).
