ABOUT THE MATCHUP
The Cougs and the Gaels face off for the eighth time with WSU holding a 5-2 edge in the all-time series...WSU has won the last five meetings between the two teams while posting a 2-2 record in San Francisco. The most recent trip to USF came in the 2008-09 season with the Cougs winning 82-71 on Nov. 30, 2008...Last season, the dominated the Dons, 73-35, in Pullman as the Cougs put together one of the best defensive performances in program history and arguably the best since the inclusion of the three-point arc...The 35 points allowed was the second lowest point total for a WSU opponent in nearly 40 seasons tying a total given up by the 1979 Cougars in a 76-35 win over Alaska-Anchorage and one off the 34 points given up to Idaho State in 2014. Overall, the Cougs held the Dons to just 24.1% shooting in the game and just 13 field goals. WSU forced 35 turnovers on the night which led to 24 points while also blocking six shots.

LAST TIME OUT
A big third quarter run proved to be the difference on the day as Washington State (0-2) fell on the road at Saint Mary's (1-1), 81-75, Sunday afternoon at McKeon Pavilion. Just as the Cougs appeared to be taking total control of the game, Saint Mary's was able to find its offensive rhythm from the free throw line as the Gaels hit six-straight from the charity stripe to kick off a 13-6 run that closed out the third quarter. Down by nine with just over four to play, the Cougs would instantly cut the lead to just four, finishing their quick outburst with a three from Alexys Swedlund, her fourth of the game. However, the outburst would be a flash as WSU went cold for the final three minutes of the game going just 1-for-8 allowing the Gaels to hold on for the win. In addition to the huge discrepancy at the line, the Gaels also benefited from controlling the glass as Saint Mary's held a 43-30 edge on the boards led by Megan McKay's 11. The big center for the Gaels used her advantage underneath to score a game-high 22 points including a back-breaking put-back with just over one-minute to play that essentially sealed the win for Saint Mary's.

ABOUT THE DONS
USF dominated it's season opener over Cal Poly, winning 83-71 last Friday night at War Memorial Gym...Anna Seilund registered two game-highs, including 19 points and eight assists. She also recorded one steal, one block and six boards...Seilund was a preseason All-WCC selection after earning second team honors a season ago...Four Dons finished in double-digit scoring (Seilund, 19, Powell, 17, Rakova 11, Kalyn Simon, 10) while USF shot 41.5% from the field and 52.2% from the line...Preseason, the Dons were picked to finish seventh in the WCC.
