TEMPE, Ariz. - From start to finish the Cougs were in complete control in the desert as Washington State (9-6-2, 4-5-0) shutout Arizona State (4-10-3, 1-6-2) behind the strength of a 63' minute strike from freshman Elyse Bennett. After peppering the goal without a result in the first half, Bennett finally broke the Cougs through with a powerful header off a cross from her Morgan Weaver as the two hooked up for the second-straight game.. The goal would hold up thanks to a stifling defense that held the Sun Devils to just nine shots with only one really testing Ella Dederick in goal as the third-year keeper earned her ninth shutout of the year. WSU would hammer a season-high 25 shots on the night with 12 hitting on goal led by Bennett's career-high 11 attempts.
Coach's Quote Of The Match
"Anytime you can pick up a win and three points on the road it is big. Getting a win like this starts the weekend off on the right foot and sets us up for Sunday. I am super proud of this team for getting this road win. Outside of the win, the goal Elyse scored tonight was great from a perfect cross from Morgan. That goal put us in a great position now looking towards the postseason with only two games to play."

- WSU took a season-high 25 shots the most since taking 25 against Oregon last season on Oct. 30, 2016. Prior, the Cougs had fired off 30 against Arizona State on Oct. 9 of that year. Both games were double-overtime contests.
- The 1-0 scoreline marked the 11th one-goal game between the two sides in 12 years with the lone exception being a 0-0 draw.
- The Cougs improved their record in Tempe to an impressive 8-3 all-time.
- Elyse Bennett scored for the second-straight game as she has scored the last two goals for the Cougs. The goal was her first game-winning strike.
- Bennett's 11 shots in the game were a season high for the Cougs and the most since Morgan Weaver took eight against Arizona State last season.
- Morgan Weaver came up with her second assist of the season and second assist to Bennett in as many games. Weaver moved into a tie with Maddy Haro for the team lead in points with 14 (6 G, 2 A)
- Ella Dederick earned her ninth shutout of the season, tying Gurveen Clair's 2014 season for second most in WSU history. Dederick now has 16 career shutouts.
- The Cougs look for a weekend sweep of action Sunday, Oct. 29 against Arizona which enters the match coming off a 2-1, come-from-behind, win over Washington Thursday night in Tucson.
