SERIES HISTORY
The Cougs continue their road trip in the desert with a game at Arizona. The Wildcats won their first conference contest of the season as they upset Utah in Salt Lake City last Sunday while dropping Friday night's contest to Washington. All-time the Wildcats hold a 33-27 edge over the Cougars, however, WSU has won the last five meetings between the two sides including a 62-61 decision at McKale Center last season.
LAST TIME OUT
A nightmare scenario played out for the Cougars on Friday the 13th as Washington State fell 68-49 to No. 18 Arizona State while suffering more than just a loss on the scoreboard. The loss for the Cougars snapped a three-game winning streak. Down double-digits in the fourth, double-digits before the Cougars' last hopes were dashed when freshman-sensation
Chanelle Molina suffered a leg injury midway through the fourth quarter. Molina, the reigning two-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, was fouled on a drive through the paint causing her to land awkwardly. For the Cougs, it was yet another injury in an already injury-cursed season that took down the team's two top threats in
Borislava Hristova and
Louise Brown. Prior to the injury, Molina had scored 13 points. She would be the lone Cougar to reach double-figures with redshirt-sophomore
Nike McClure finishing just short with eight points while tying her career-best of nine rebounds. McClure also added two blocks, two steals, and dished out three of the Cougars' 14 assists.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats have two players averaging double-figures led by LaBrittany Jones who averages 15.4 points per game while also grabbing a team-best 7.6 rebounds per contest. As a team, Arizona averages just 69.1 points per game, second-worst in the Pac-12 only behind Arizona State. Jones scored her 1,000th career point last week against Colorado on Jan. 6. She became Arizona's 19th 1,000-point scorer in school history. Along with Jones Malena Washington is averaging averaging13.4 points per game. The senior duo have scored 42% of Arizona's points this season (465 points).
