PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State men's cross country team kept its No. 11 ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Week One poll published Sept. 12, after a preseason poll ranking at No. 11 published Aug.29.
This is the highest ranking the Cougs have ever received in the USTFCCCA Week One Poll. The No. 11 ranking is the highest since 1998 when the Cougars team, led by distance legend, Olympian and WSU Athletics Hall of Fame member Bernard Lagat, was ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll.
Other nationally ranked men's Pac-12 teams in week one include No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 Colorado, No. 9 Oregon, and No. 22 UCLA.
In the first week of USTFCCCA West Region Rankings the WSU men's team kept its No. 3 ranking, behind Stanford and Oregon. For complete men's and women's team national and regional rankings visit ustfccca.org.
The Cougars have yet to compete in a meet aside from the WSU Alumni Meet. The Oregon XC Preview, scheduled for Sept. 7, was cancelled due to poor air quality in the Springfield area.
The men's and women's team continue to train in preparation for their upcoming meet Sept. 29 at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.
