LAS VEGAS – Washington State's Michaela Bayerlova fell in three sets to Rhiann Newborn in the second round of qualifying at the International Tennis Federation Las Vegas event Monday.
Bayerlova started slow, getting broke twice in the first set at Newborn raced to a 6-2 lead. In the second set the Cougar freshman reversed the trend, earned quick breaks which she rode to a 6-2 win and forcing a third set.
In the third Newborn earned two quick breaks for the 3-0 lead then cruised to the 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 win, ending Bayerlova's tournament.
Washington State will begin its fall tournament schedule Sept. 22 at the UNLV Fall Invitational.
