PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State swimming team is scheduled to host four home meets during the 2017-18 season, head coach Tom Jager announced Wednesday, Aug. 23.

The Cougars finished the 2016-17 season with 51 lifetime-best times and four dual meet wins, making it the third time in program history WSU defeated three Pac-12 Conference opponents. Washington State University will host three home events during the season, all three against conference foes.

"We are looking forward to an exciting year" said Jager, who enters his seventh season at WSU. "We have a young talented team. I am looking forward to preparing them for the challenge of the Pac-12. I like our schedule, it gives us a couple of home meets in January which we haven't had for a while, and it will give our fans a chance to see us swim a little more."

The Cougars will open the season on the road, traveling to California to take on Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara Sept. 28 and 29, respectively. The Mustangs from Cal Poly finished sixth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships last season, while the Guachos finished second. The Cougars hold a 1-1 record against UC Santa Barbara, with their last head-to-head competition taking place in the 1997-98 season when WSU won 71-51.

The Cougars will host Arizona at Gibb Pool in their first home meet Oc.t 14, before welcoming back former Cougars for the Alumni Meet Oct. 21.

"The Alumni Meet will be a great opportunity for our young athletes to meet fellow Cougs that walked in their shoes and swam in their lane," Jager added. "It should be an exciting year filled with ups and downs and everything in between."

WSU closes out the month of October traveling to Los Angeles to face USC Oct. 26 and UCLA Oct. 28. Last season, USC finished third in the Pac-12 and ranked sixth nationally, while UCLA finished fifth at the Pac-12 Championships and 21st nationally. The Cougars defeated UCLA during the regular season for the first time in program history last season, 143-199, claiming ten of the 14 events against the Bruins.

The Cougars head to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the annual Ohio State Invite Nov 17-19. Last season, the Cougars finished ninth, competing against Top-20 teams such as Standford, Kentucky, and Ohio State.

In January, WSU resumes competition in the Pac-12 Conference hosting Arizona State and Oregon State Jan. 13 and 26, respectively. The Cougars will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to close out their regular season competition on Feb. 10.

The Pac-12 Championships are set for Feb. 21-24 in Federal Way, Wash. and the NCAA Championships will be hosted by The Ohio State University Mar. 15-17 in Columbis, Ohio.
