Thirteen WSU Volleyball Matches to be Broadcast Live on Pac-12 Networks in 2017

WSU volleyball will open the 2017 home season by hosting the Cougar Challenge Tournament, Aug. 31-Sept. 2.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Washington State University volleyball program published its 2017 schedule and will have 13 matches televised this fall, the Pac-12 Networks and Pac-12 Conference announced Thursday.
 
In the sixth year of operations, the Pac-12 Networks will televise 87 women's volleyball matches live, with an additional three matches televised live by ESPNU this season.
 
Jen Greeny, the 2016 Pac-12 Coach of the Year, begins her seventh season as head coach at WSU. The Cougars return four starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA Championship Tournament second round. WSU ended the season ranked No. 24 in the Final AVCA Coaches Poll with a 22-12 overall record: the most wins in a season since 2002, and tied for fifth-best all-time wins in Cougars history. WSU's 11-9 Pac-12 record, tied for fifth place in the highly competitive conference, was the most conference wins for the Cougars since 2002.
 
Six of the 11 non-conference matches for the Cougars in 2017 will be against 2016 NCAA Championship Tournament teams: American, Howard, Baylor, New Hampshire, Fairfield and Missouri State. The Cougars open the 2017 volleyball season in Washington D.C. taking on American and Howard, Aug. 27-28.
 
WSU returns to the Palouse for the Cougar Challenge tournament, held in Bohler Gym, Aug. 31-Sept. 2, with teams from Baylor, College of Charleston, Incarnate Word and Quinnipiac. Then it's back on the road for the last two weekends of nonconference play: at the Fairfield University Invitational in Connecticut to play New Hampshire and the host team, and then at the Missouri State Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational to play Tennessee State, University of Tennessee Chattanooga and the host team.
 
It will be another year of tough competition in the Pac-12 Conference which had eight members compete in the NCAA Championship tournament in 2016. WSU's opening Pac-12 match for the 2017 season will be in Bohler Gym taking on cross-state rival Washington Wednesday, Sept. 20, with the 6 p.m. contest to be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
