THIS WEEK: In its last regular-season tournament before the Pac-12 Championships, the Washington State women's golf team heads to Napa, Calif. to compete at the Silverado Showdown, Sunday through Tuesday, Apr. 9-11, at Silverado Golf Course.
THE TOURNAMENT: Teams will play 18 holes each day at a par-72 for the three-day tournament…the first two rounds will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday and Monday, with WSU teeing off at 8:45 a.m…the final round will begin Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m…the competing participants will play in threesomes with new pairings determined after each round…the lowest four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
THE FIELD: Joining WSU and host-schools Oregon and Colorado in the 18-team field will be California, East Carolina, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Iowa State, Long Beach State, Northwestern, Pepperdine, San Jose State, San Francisco, Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech, UC Davis, and UCLA…Stanford (fourth), UCLA (fifth), Northwestern (15th), Texas Tech (26th), and TCU (28th) are currently ranked in the top-30 by Golfweek.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be junior Alivia Brown, senior Cherokee Kim, freshman Marie Lund-Hansen, sophomore Madison Odiorne, and junior Bree Wanderscheid.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The Cougars played two days of match play at SDSU's March Mayhem, March 20-21, defeating UNLV 3-1-1 in the final round to finish 11th out of 16 teams…WSU split its first two matches on the first day of play, falling to Pepperdine 4-1-0 in the opening round and beating San Francisco 4-0-1 in the consolation bracket…WSU fell to New Mexico 3-1-1 in the third round…leading the Cougars was Lund-Hansen, who went 3-1 on her matches throughout the tournament…Wanderscheid and Kim each went 2-1-1 on their matches…Brown and Odiorne finished the tournament with a 1-1-2 record.
COACHING STAFF: The team is led by eighth-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the women's golf team to a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships…WSU alumna Emma Betland is entering her third season as assistant coach, and golfed at WSU from 2010-2013.
