Distance Runners Find Success in Bay Area Meets

Emily Dwyer chopped off nearly 42 seconds off her lifetime-best time with her section win and overall fourth place time of 10:31.50; a time that is seventh-best in WSU's all-time records.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington State track and field distance runners found success Friday at a pair of meets in the Bay area.
 
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, WSU assistant coach Allix Potratz-Lee won the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes 17.27 seconds. Redshirt senior Emily Dwyer (Sammamish, Wash.) chopped off nearly 42 seconds off her lifetime-best time with her section win and overall fourth place time of 10:31.50; a time that is seventh-best in WSU's all-time records.
 
Other Cougar women competing at the San Francisco State meet Friday included: Josie Brown, 1500m (4:45.59 - 60th), Steffie Pavey, 1500m (4:59.08 - 91st), Morgan Lash, steeplechase (11:16.67 - 35th), Desi Stinger, steeplechase (11:17.17 - 36th), Morgan Willson, 5000m (PR 17:05.03 - 29th), Melissa Hruska, 5000m (17:28.72 - 60th), and Katherine Dittmann, 5000m (18:04.28 - 92nd).
 
WSU men and their marks from SF State meet were: Jake Finney, 10,000m (31:13.80 - 42nd), Kennan Schrag, 5000m (14:57.72 - 84th), Kyler Little, 3000m steeplechase (PR 9:08.04 - 11th), and Cameron Dean, steeplechase (9:46.86 - 47th).
 
During the first day and evening of the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track, Devon Bortfeld (junior, Sammamish, Wash.) ran an outdoor PR time in the 5000m of 16:17.29 for 13th in the women's Section 3 race. In the men's 5k Section 3 race, junior Sam Levora (Sandpoint, Idaho) ran a PR time of 14:01.63 for third place.
 
Other WSU men's times and places from Friday at Stanford included: Chandler Teigen, 1500m (3:49.18 - 1st Section 4), Justin Janke, 1500m (3:52.02 - 6th Section 4), and Paul Ryan, 1500m (3:48.60 - 8th Section 3).
 
The men's and women's Stanford Invite 10,000m races are set to begin late Friday night and the WSU results will be reported Saturday.
 
At the UCLA Bruins Legends meet Friday field events, Brock Eager (redshirt sophomore, Renton, Wash.) won the men's Invitational hammer with a toss of 212-3 (64.70m), and Travis Pickett finished fourth with a heave of 195-9 1/2 (59.68m). Katie Wardsworth finished seventh in the women's Invitational hammer with a mark of 179-10 1/4 (54.82m).
 
WSU track and field teams will be competing Saturday, April 1, at the Stanford Invitational and UCLA Bruins Legends Invitational.
