THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team travels to Southern California to compete at SDSU's March Mayhem, Monday through Wednesday, March 20-22, at Rancho Santa Fe's The Farms Golf Club.
THE TOURNAMENT: Teams will compete in a 72-hole match play format on a 6,211-yard track at a par-72, with 36 holes Monday and 18 holes each Tuesday and Wednesday…team seeding is determined by Golfweek rankings as of March 14, with Washington State being seeded 10th after being ranked 60th by Golfweek…the Cougars will face No. 7 seeded Pepperdine in the first round, who is ranked 43rd by Golfweek…the winner of each matchup will move on to the Championship bracket, while the others move to the Consolation bracket…in the second round, the Cougars will face either No. 2 seeded Northwestern or No. 15 USF…the third and fourth rounds will be further championship and consolation brackets…round one will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Monday.
THE FIELD: Joining WSU and host-school San Diego State in the 16-team field will be Arizona, BYU, California, Fresno State, Idaho, Iowa, New Mexico, Northwestern, Old Dominion, Pepperdine, San Francisco, UNLV, USC, and Yale…No. 1 seeded USC (second), No. 2 seeded Northwestern (14th), and No. 3 seeded Arizona (17th) are currently ranked in the top-25 by Golfweek.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be junior Alivia Brown, senior Cherokee Kim, freshman Marie Lund-Hansen, sophomore Madison Odiorne, and junior Bree Wanderscheid.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: In its fourth top-five finish of the season, WSU placed third at the 32nd Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, March 14-15, at Kane'ohe, Hawaii against four top-25 ranked opponents…Brown recorded her third top-5 finish of the season, tying for third after shooting 4-under (212) through three rounds…Kim tied for 20th after carding a three-round score of 220 (+4)…Lund-Hansen finished one stroke behind Kim at 5-over par (221) and tied for 23rd, while Odiorne finished in 26th place with a total of 222 (+6)…Wanderscheid tied for 55th (+13, 229).
COACHING STAFF: The team is led by eighth-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the women's golf team to a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships…WSU alumna Emma Betland is entering her third season as assistant coach, and golfed at WSU from 2010-2013.
