2016 SAAC Cougar Sports Awards

Washington State student-athletes took a break from studying for finals by celebrating the 2015-16 athletic season at the 2016 SAAC Sports Awards, Thursday, April 28.

The annual end-of-the-season event, presented by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, featured the Great Gatsby theme with a 1920's inspiration.

Track and field's Ian Markham and Danielle Carnahan were Community Service award recipients. The award is bestowed to the male and female athlete who has completed the most hours of community service during the year.

Football's Riley Sorenson and women's basketball Nike McClure captured Most Inspirational honors, an award that goes to the two athletes that have overcome adversity during the year while making an impact on their team and the Cougars.

Track and field's Terrance Chambers and women's basketball Mariah Cooks took home Mr. Coug and Mrs. Coug honors. The awards are given to the two athletes who embody what it means to be a Coug, not only on the field but off the field as well.

Football's Jeremiah Allison and soccer's Beau Bremer captured Senior Spotlight honors. The spotlight is awarded to one male and one female athlete who have made an impact at WSU on and off the field during their Cougar career.

The award ceremony concluded with Sorenson presented with the All-Pac-12 Sportsmanship Award.

About the SAAC:

The purpose of SAAC is to provide communication between student-athletes and administration, raising the awareness of important topics including administrative policy and decisions, NCAA legislation, compliance, student-athlete welfare and community service opportunities. SAAC members strive to strengthen the relationship between student-athletes, athletic administration and the university. Each member is provided with a supportive open-forum atmosphere to voice student-athlete and team concerns. SAAC provides opportunities of leadership within athletic teams and facilitates cooperation between student-athletes, the athletic administration and the community to enhance the overall student-athlete experience at Washington State University.
