SERIES HISTORY
Up next for the Cougs is a rivalry game at Gonzaga on Dec. 8. The Bulldogs are off to another hot start having already picked up one of the biggest wins of the season, taking down then No. 4 Stanford, 68-63, in Palo Alto to start the year. The two teams have a long history with the Cougs dominating the series 20-7 with a two-game winning streak. Last season WSU took a tough 55-48 win in Pullman thanks to 17 points from
Borislava Hristova and a then career-high 14 points from
Louise Brown. The Bulldogs are the fifth West Coast Conference opponent for the Cougars on the year. WSU is 4-0 against the WCC with all four wins coming at home.
LAST TIME OUT
Needing an extra five minutes to decide the winner of the day's contest, the Washington State women's basketball team found themselves on the wrong end of a 77-73 decision to Boise State in Beasley Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. The loss for the Cougars (5-3) was their second in overtime on the year as the Broncos (7-0) escaped Pullman with their unblemished record intact. WSU was able to spread the ball around as the Cougars put five players in double-figures for the first time since their game against Colorado back on Feb. 25 of last season. The Cougars did see a career-best four made three-pointers from freshman
Chanelle Molina who finished her day with 13 points for her third-straight double-digit scoring effort. Sophomore
Borislava Hristova shook off an off shooting performance to tie for the team lead with 13 points while
Alexys Swedlund had 11 and
Caila Hailey and freshman
Kayla Washington each scored 10.
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Picked to win the WCC, the Bulldogs have played a tough non-conference schedule today with games against #4 Stanford (W, 68-66), Michigan(L, 78-66), and #10 Florida State (L, 87-69). After their win in Palo Alto against the Cardinal, the Zags jumped into the top-25 at #25, but their subsequent losses at the Paradise Jam over Thanksgiving knocked them out of the rankings. On the year, Gonzaga is averaging 76.1 points per game led by Jill Barta at 19.3 ppg. Barta is also the team's leading rebounder at 6.7 rpg and has blocked a team-best 13 shots on the year. Behind Barta, no other Bulldog player that has seen substantial playing time is averaging double-figures.
