SERIES HISTORY
The Cougars hit the road for the first time in 2016-17 as they head to the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas. WSU will take on Nebraska (2-1) and Maryland (3-0). Nebraska holds a 5-2 all-time lead over the Cougs with the last meeting going to Neb., 82-61, in 2014 while WSU is 1-0 against Maryland having won the only meeting, 70-64, in 2014. Nebraska played Tuesday against Omaha before heading to Nevada. The Huskers are led by Jessica Shepard who has put up 17.7 ppg and 12.3 rpg in the three contests. Maryland heads to the desert a perfect 4-0 and ranked No. 5 in the country. The Terrapins start the tournament with a tilt against Arizona State before taking on the Cougs. The Terrapins have scored over 100 points in three of four contests on the year and are led by Shatori Walker-Kimbrough who is averaging 14.8 ppg and 4.0 apg. Four different players are averaging double-digit points on the season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars split the weekend at home last week with a win over San Francisco (W, 73-35) and an overtime loss to Oklahoma State (L, 72-79). Against USF on Friday, the Cougs put together one of the best defensive performances in program history and arguably the best since the inclusion of the three-point arc as the 35 points allowed was the second lowest point total for a WSU opponent in nearly 40 seasons. Two days later, WSU found themselves in a dogfight with the Cowgirls, battling back from five down with just over one minute to play to force overtime before eventually falling for the first time on the year. In the loss, junior Louis Brown posted a dbl-dbl (11pt, 16rbd) while freshman
Chanelle Molina scored a season-best 15 points.
