SAN FRANCISCO - Washington State punt returner Kaleb Fossum was named the Pac-12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Fossum earns his first career weekly accolade after returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in the 56-21 win over California, the Cougars eighth straight win. It was Washington State's first punt return for a touchdown since 2005 (Michael Bumpus at Nevada). Fossum's return came after the defense forced a 3-and-out on Cal's opening series, before the Cougar offense had taken the field. Fossum enters the week fourth in the Pac-12 with a 10.8 punt return average.
It is the second Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week award for WSU this season after kick returner Robert Taylor earned the honor after returning a kickoff 100 yards for touchdown in the 37-32 win at Arizona State. It is the first time WSU has had two Special Teams player of the week awards in the same season since 2006.
