PULLMAN, Wash. – For the second-consecutive week freshman Borislava Hristova of the Washington State women's basketball team was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday, Jan. 25.
Hristova led the Cougars with 13 points in a 63-69 defeat at Washington Saturday, marking her 17th double-digit performance of the season. The Bulgarian native earned the honor for the second-consecutive week, becoming the second player in WSU history to earn back-to-back honors. Lia Galdeira was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week two-straight times Dec. 17 and 24, 2012.
Hristova is shooting .900 (36-of-40) from the free throw line this season and is shooting .463 (133-287) from the floor as a small forward. Last week, the freshman phenom broke a 26-year-old WSU freshman record for most 20-point performances in a season with her seventh of the year. She is on pace to break WSU's freshman record in total points, points per game, free throw percentage, and field goals made.
The honor marks the third-career for Hristova and the third honor of the season for the Cougars.
Washington State returns to the hardwood Friday, Jan. 29 in Berkeley, Calif. The Cougars will face the Golden Bears at 6 p.m. with coverage on the Pac-12 Networks.
