SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pac-12 Conference office announced the Pac-12 Volleyball Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 19-25, and Washington State's Kyra Holt is the Offensive Player of the Week and Claire Martin is the Defensive Player of the Week.
The Cougars, ranked No. 17 in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll this week, are coming off stunning upsets at then-No. 4 Washington and at then-No.9 UCLA last week. It was WSU's first win in Seattle since 2001 and first in Westwood since 1997.
Holt, a senior outside hitter from Hercules, Calif., led the Cougars with 39 kills, a 4.33 kills per set average, hit. .207, had one ace, one block and 11 digs. She leads WSU and is fifth-best in the Pac-12 and 79th-best in NCAA with 3.78 kps, and her 4.37 points per set is fourth-best in Pac-12 and 64th-best in NCAA. Last week, Holt became the fifth Cougar in school history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career. This is her fifth-career weekly honor for Holt and 22nd all-time for Washington State.
Martin, a sophomore middle blocker from Bremerton, Wash., led the team with 16 blocks last week: led team in blocks in win at then-No. 4 Washington with seven block assists and at then-No. 9 UCLA with one block solo and eight block assists. Martin's 1.59 blocks per set this season leads team, is third-best in Pac-12 and 11th-best in NCAA. Her 65 total blocks is 54th-best in NCAA. This is the first career weekly honor for Martin and the 23rd for Washington State all-time.
