ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Washington State men's golf team is in 12th place after shooting 24-over par (600) through two rounds at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Friday, at New Mexico's Championship Golf Course.
"The guys had great stretches today, so we know what we are capable of," WSU Head Coach Dustin White said. "It's just [about] stringing those together and making better decisions."
The Cougars are 27 strokes behind first-place San Diego (-3, 573) and 19 strokes behind second-place Colorado State (+5, 581). New Mexico is in third place after two rounds, shooting 7-over par (583), while BYU is in fourth place (+8, 584). In-state rival Washington is in seventh place (+13, 589).
Junior Derek Bayley is tied for 15th with four other golfers, shooting 2-over par through two rounds (146). Bayley trails first-place leaders Rhett Rasmussen of BYU, Blake Cannon of Colorado State, and PJ Samiere of San Diego State by six strokes. Bayley shot 3-under par in the first round, carding three birdies on the front nine.
Freshman Nicklaus Chiam shot 3-over par in the second round to move ten spots up the leaderboard. Chiam is now tied for 38th after two rounds of play (+3, 150).

"We need to do a better job of being disciplined and minimizing some of the mistakes," White said. "The golf course is difficult and requires you to be in control of the golf ball and your emotions. We need to do a better job of adapting to different conditions as well."
