THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's golf team returns to Pullman to host the WSU Cougar Cup, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20, at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
THE COURSE: The course at Palouse Ridge Golf Club will play at par-72 with a 6,200-yard track…teams will play 36 holes Monday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start…the tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start…opened in August 2008, Palouse Ridge Golf Club is a championship-level golf course on the WSU campus…the course played host to the 2012 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship, 2013 NCAA Men's Golf Pullman Regional, and the 2015 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship…the course has been named to Golfweek's Top College Courses List for the last three years, coming in at sixth in 2016.
THE FIELD: Joining Washington State in the 10-team field are British Columbia, Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Sacramento State, Seattle and Valparaiso.
LAST TIME AT PULLMAN: The Cougars won the WSU Cougar Cup in 2015, finishing 2-over par (866), 14 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Idaho (880)…current senior Cherokee Kim placed first, winning her first collegiate tournament, shooting 5-under par (211)…current junior Bree Wanderscheid placed fifth with a score of 217 (+1)…current junior Alivia Brown tied for sixth at 2-over par (218)…competing as an individual, current junior Jamie Midkiff tied for 69th (+32, 248).
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Washington State finished 14th in a competitive field at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 12-13, at Albuquerque, N.M…the Cougars improved by 17 strokes in the final round, finishing 26-over par (890)…sophomore Madison Odiorne led the team, finishing tied for 30th at 2-over par (218)…junior Bree Wanderscheid tied for 37th with a score of 219 (+3)…fellow junior Alivia Brown had a score of 223 (+7), tied for 55th…senior Cherokee Kim tied for 78th with a three-round score of 230 (+14)…freshman Elodie Bridenne made her debut for the Cougars finishing 93rd (261).
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by eighth-year head coach, Kelli Kamimura, who led the Cougars to a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships…WSU alumna Emma Betland is entering her third season as assistant coach…she golfed at WSU from 2010-2013.
