Four Cougars to Compete in U-20 European Championships

The 2016 U20 FIBA European Championships will feature four Cougar student-athletes.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Three current Washington State women's basketball players and one incoming WSU freshman will be competing in the upcoming 2016 FIBA U-20 European Championships this summer. Rising junior Pinelopi Pavlopoulou, rising-sophomores Maria Kostourkova and Borislava Hristova, and incoming freshman Jovana Subasic will compete for their respective countries at the championships held July 9-17.
 
Pavlopoulou, Kostourkova, and Subasic will compete at the Division A championship held in Matosinhos, Portugal, while Hristova competes at the Division B championship in Podgorica, Montenegro at the same time.
 
Pavlopoulou, a native of Athens, Greece, will face France, Latvia, and the Netherlands in group play before advancing to the knockout stage of the competition. Kostourkova will compete for Portugal against Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Poland in group play. Subasic, a Serbian national, will face Germany, Italy, and Sweden in the opening rounds.
 
Hristova, competing for Bulgaria, will face Romania, Croatia, and Belarus in the opening rounds of the Division B championship.
 
Following group play, all teams will advance to the knockout stage based on results from the opening rounds.
