SAN FRANCISCO – Lize Leenknecht and Donika Bashota received 2016 Pac-12 Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic honorable mention honors, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Thursday.

Leenknecht, from Heule, Belgium, graduated last month with a 3.05 grade point average and a degree in journalism and media production. She became WSU's first three-time team captain under Head Coach Lisa Hart.  She finished her career with 77 singles victories, tied for 10th on WSU's all-time list. She received the WSU Coaches Award for the third-straight year last month and was named the Northwest Region ITA/Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship & Leadership Award winner for the second-straight season.

Bashota, from Lidkoping, Sweden, finished the 2016 season with a school-record 36 singles victories and a No. 80 national ranking. Last month she completed her sophomore season and carried a 3.13 GPA entering the spring while planning to major in apparel design, merchandising and textiles. During this past season she earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors after defeating California and Stanford in back-to-back matches.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be a starter or significant contributor.
