PULLMAN, Wash. – Four current Washington State soccer players will be training and competing this summer with amateur teams from the Women's Premier Soccer League and independent clubs. Senior Kaitlyn Johnson, sophomore Maddy Haro, and incoming freshmen Tarah Patterson and Emele Chaddock are all participating in developmental organizations that allow college soccer players the opportunity to compete alongside other amateurs and international players, while maintaining collegiate eligibility.
Senior Kaitlyn Johnson and incoming freshman Tarah Patterson will compete for the Colorado Pride this summer. Johnson, a forward from Torrance, Calif., returns to the club after helping the team to the W-League Championship in 2015. Johnson scored five goals in 11 matches last summer, while adding two assists. Patterson, an early enrollee this spring at WSU, also returns to Colorado, having trained and competed with the reserve team. The Pride begin their 2016 campaign Sunday, May 22 with a match against the Colorado Storm.
Incoming freshman Emele Chaddock will be training with the Sounders Women in Tukwila, Wash. Chaddock, a Mukilteo, Wash., native, competed for three seasons with Kamiak High School and also competed for ENCL side Crossfire Premier, helping the team finish as the national runner-up at the ECNL National Finals. The Sounders Women kick off their 2016 season Sunday, May 22, against North Shore Girls Soccer Club (NSGSC).
Rising sophomore Maddy Haro will return to southern California for the summer to train with Legends FC, a year-round soccer program focused on development of youth players. In her first season with the Cougars, Haro appeared in 18 matches for WSU, scoring two goals including one against No. 4 Stanford. Haro and Legends FC will begin their WPSL campaign Saturday, May 21 against Beach Futbol Club.
