NORWALK, Calif. -- Five Washington State track and field student-athletes etched their names in the school's top ten lists while competing at the 58th Annual Mt. SAC Relays, being held at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif., this year as historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium undergoes renovation. Most of the events Cougars competed in Thursday and Friday were Collegiate/Open sections unless otherwise noted.
Late Thursday night in the women's 10k at the Mt. SAC Relays, Morgan Willson (junior, Colfax, Wash.) ran a time of 36 minutes, 6.48 seconds (31st) which is the sixth-fastest time in WSU all-time, and Katherine Dittmann (Snohomish, Wash.) ran a time of 36:33.54 (35th) which is eighth-fastest in WSU all-time records and the school's Freshman Record.
Senior Dominique Keel (Beaverton, Ore.) ran right into the Cougars records with her 200m lifetime-best time of 23.74 seconds, 18th place in the race but fifth-fastest in WSU all-time records.
Earlier in the afternoon, both Keel and Christiana Ekelem ran nearly identical PR times in the 400m dash of 54.59. Ekelem's time from the fourth heat was broken out to 54.5486 for 14th place while Keel's time from the third heat carried out to 54.589 for 15th place.
Austin Sodorff (senior, Woodinville, Wash.) had a breakthrough pole vault leap clearing 17-feet, 3/4 inches (5.20m) on his second attempt for fourth place on the day but is in a four-way tie for 10th-best pole vault at WSU all-time.
The men's 400m relay of Zach Smith, Ja'Maun Charles, Terrance Chambers and Jonnie Green ran a season-best time of 40.39, second-fastest in the men's section. Charles and Smith had a quick turn-around to race in the 100ms dash with both achieving wind-aided PRs: Charles ran 10.49w for 25th and Smith ran 10.54w for 32nd. Later in the day, a pair of Cougs ran wind-aided PRs in the 200 with Chambers' time 21.09w (20th) and Charles' time 21.13w (24th) while Green's PR time of 21.59 (44th) was wind-legal.
On the track Friday evening, CharLee Linton (senior, Shorewood, Wash.) ran a PR time in the women's Invitational Elite 5000m of 16:31.43 (40th), seventh-fastest in school history. In the men's 5000m Invitational Elite race, Michael Williams ran a PR time of 14:04.16 for 34th while John Whelan ran a time of 14:30.74 for 51st.
Jake Callaghan won the shot put with a PR heave of 53-10 1/4 (16.41m) on his sixth and final attempt of the day. Adam Mahama took third in the men's discus with a nearly eight-foot PR throw today of 172-11 (52.71m). Cameron Brink had a season-best discus toss of 160-4 (48.87m) for eighth place.
Kiana Davis triple jumped a wind-aided PR mark of 41-1 3/4w (12.54m) for second place with teammates Greer Alsop leaping 40-6w (12.34m) for sixth and Kayla Warren equaling her season-best legal mark of 40-3 1/2 (12.28m). Davis also placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-7 (1.70m).
Cougar women and their Friday marks/places included: Regyn Gaffney, 100m (11.75 - 30th) and 200m (24.40w - 41st), Danielle Darden, 100m (season-best 11.99w - 47th) and 200m (season-best 24.46 - 42nd), Devon Bortfeld, 5000m (16:56.03 - 25th), Josie Brown, 5000m (PR 17:30.75 - 46th), Candice McFarland, 100m hurdles (14.61 - 28th), ShaRaya Quinn, 100m hurdles (15.46 - 39th), Stephanie Cho, 400m hurdles (1:05.72 - 32nd), Kaitlin Krouse, discus (145-10/44.44m - 4th), Chrisshnay Brown, discus (144-5/44.01m - 7th).
WSU men and their Friday finishes included: Matthew Swanson, 800m (1:50.69 - 12th), Hironmoy Redman, 800m (1:55.75 - 44th), Reid Muller, 1500m (PR 3:49.98 - 18th), Chandler Teigen, 1500m (3:50.38 - 20th), Jackson Haselnus, 1500m (season-best 3:55.02 - 36th), Forrest Shaffer, 5000m (14:21.36 - 24th), Sam Levora, 5000m (14:27:43 - 34th), Christapherson Grant, 110m hurdles (14.98 - 29th), Abu Kamara, 110m hurdles (15.29 - 35th), Thane Pierson, high jump (6-8 3/4/2.05m - 5th).
At the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University Friday, Brad Stevens was fifth in the men's javelin with a throw of 214-11 (65.51m) and Kelsie Taylor was 13th in the women's javelin with a throw of 132-11 (40.53m).
The Cougars continue competing at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday.
