THIS WEEK: The Washington State men's golf team will travel to Provo, Utah, for the first time since 2011 to compete at the PING Cougar Classic, Monday and Tuesday, April 11-12.
THE TOURNAMENT: The two-day 54-hole tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 7,200-yard Riverside Country Club…thirty-six holes will be played Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.
THE FIELD: Joining Washington State and tournament-host BYU in the 10-team field will be Colorado State (last year's champion), Dixie State, Pacific, Southern Utah, Utah State, Westminster, and Wyoming.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished fourth at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational presented by OGIO, April 4-5, at Chambers Bay Golf Course…Washington State (+74, 922) finished 25 strokes back of tournament-champion Washington (+49, 897)…three Cougars finished in the top 25, with Whalen tying for 11th (+16, 228), eight strokes back of tournament-champion Jonathan Sanders of Washington (+8, 220)…Armstrong notched his fourth top-25 performance of the season as he tied for 13th (+17, 229)…Omelia tied for 24th (+20, 232).
COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by fifth-year head coach Garrett Clegg…assisting Clegg is WSU alumnus Dustin White, a third-year assistant coach who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003.
