THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team travels to Tempe, Ariz., to participate in its third-consecutive tournament in the state of Arizona at the PING/ASU Invitational, Friday through Sunday, April 8-10.
THE TOURNAMENT: One round will be played each of the three days at the par-72, 6,337-yard ASU Karsten Golf Club…teams will tee-off beginning at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday…the final round will begin Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
THE FIELD: Joining WSU and tournament-host, No. 11 Arizona State in the 14-team field will be No. 1 Alabama, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 10 Arizona (last year's champion), No. 13 Washington, No. 17 UNLV, Baylor, Colorado, Denver, Hawaii, Oregon State, and Texas.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished third at Wyoming's Cowgirl Classic, April 4-5, at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club…with a three-round total of 885 (+21), Washington State finished 12 strokes back of tournament-champion Idaho (+9, 873) and four strokes back of second-place finisher Santa Clara (+17, 881)…five Cougars finished in the top 25, led by sophomore Alivia Brown, who tied for ninth (+4, 220), 13 strokes out of first…junior Cherokee Kim tied for 13th (+5, 221), while seniors Monica Huang and Nani Yanagi and freshman Madison Odiorne tied for 15th (+6, 222).
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
