THIS WEEK: The Washington State men's golf team will play its second-straight tournament in the state of Oregon as it heads to Canby, Ore., to compete at the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic at Willamette Valley Country Club Monday and Tuesday, March 21 and 22.
THE TOURNAMENT: The two-day 54-hole tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday at the par 72, 6,976-yard Willamette Valley Country Club…thirty-six holes will be played Monday and 18 holes Tuesday…the lowest four scores from each five-member team will count toward the team totals.
THE FIELD: Joining Washington State and host-Oregon State in the 15-team field are fellow-Pac-12 member, No. 28 Oregon, Cal Poly, East Tennessee State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego, Seattle University, Saint Mary's, UNLV, Utah, UTRGV (The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley), UMKC (University of Missouri-Kansas City) and Wisconsin.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar men will be sophomore Derek Bayley, senior Evan Omelia, junior Nick Mandell, freshman AJ Armstrong and sophomore Brian Mogg…senior Bhurinat Songpaiboon will represent WSU as an individual.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Highlighted by Bayley's sixth top-25 finish of the season, WSU finished ninth (+52, 904) at the Bandon Dunes Championship March 6-8 at Bandon, Ore….with a three-round total of 11-over par (224), Bayley finished 25th and 16 strokes back of tournament-champion, Blair Bursey of Utah Valley (-5, 208)…Omelia moved up 22 spots in the final day to tie for 28th at 12-over (225).
COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by fifth-year head coach Garrett Clegg…assisting Clegg is WSU alumnus Dustin White, a third-year assistant coach who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003.
