BANDON, Ore. – The Washington State men's golf team is tied with Denver for ninth place after the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship, Monday, at the Bandon Trails Golf Course.
WSU shot a second-round 297 (+13), a nine-stroke improvement from the first round, to bring its two-round total to 603 (+35). The team leads in-state rival Gonzaga (+40, 608) by five strokes. No. 11 Clemson (-4, 564) leads the field after shooting 10-under par (274) in the second round. Missouri and Pac-12 competitor No. 22 Washington are tied for second (+14, 582), 18 strokes behind Clemson.
“We need to have a good day tomorrow and hopefully pass some teams,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said.
After shooting 2-over par (73) on the day, sophomore Derek Bayley leads the team and is tied for 25th. With a two-round total of 149 (+7), Bayley trails co-leaders Stephen Behr and Bryson Nimmer of Clemson and Blair Bursey of Utah Valley (-3, 139) by 10 strokes.
Freshman AJ Armstrong is tied for 32nd at 150 (+8) after matching his first-round 75 in the second round. Fellow freshman Aaron Whalen trails Armstrong by two strokes and is tied for 38th (+10, 152).
Junior Nick Mandell is tied for 44th (+11, 153), while senior Evan Omelia remains tied for 50th (+12, 154) and sophomore Zach Anderson is tied for 64th (+16, 158).
