Cougars Set for Westbrook Invitational

The tournament is the women's golf team's first spring event.

THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team tees off its spring season at the Westbrook Invitational, at Peoria, Ariz., Sunday through Monday, Feb. 21-22.

THE TOURNAMENT: Two rounds will be played Sunday at the Westbrook Village Golf Course with the first round beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. MT, followed by the second round at 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT…the third and final round Monday will start at 7:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. MT on the par-72, 6,269-yard track.

THE FIELD: Joining WSU and host-school Wisconsin in the 15-team field will be No. 23 Oregon, No. 24 UNLV, No. 25 San Diego State, the College of Charleston, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon State, and SMU.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be sophomore Alivia Brown, junior Cherokee Kim, sophomore Bree Wanderscheid, senior Nani Yanagi, and freshman Madison Odiorne…senior Monica Huang will compete as an individual.

LAST TIME AT THE WESTBROOK INVITATIONAL: The Cougars, led by Brown's 10th-place effort (-1, 215), finished in a three-way tie for 13th (+28, 892) with Nebraska and Tulsa in 2015…then-senior Kristen Rue tied for 28th at 4-over par (220), while senior Rachel Lewis tied for 72nd (+15, 231) at the Westbrook Village Golf Course.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished seventh with a three-round total of 903 (+27) at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club, Nov. 3 to conclude the fall season…Brown carded 14 birdies throughout the tournament in a career-best fourth-place finish, shooting even par in each of the three rounds…Wanderscheid tied for 29th (+10, 229), one stroke ahead of Huang, who tied for 32nd (+11, 230).

COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
