Cougars Travel to Hawaii for John Burns

WSU will compete in a field of 16 teams, including three ranked opponents.

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University men's golf team, coming off its top-5 finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate, will compete at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Lihue, Hawaii, Wednesday through Friday, Feb. 17-19.
 
THE TOURNAMENT: One round will be played each of the three days at Wailua Golf Course, a par-72, 6,991-yard track…each round will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. HST.
 
THE FIELD: Joining Washington State and host-school Hawaii in the 16-team field will be No. 7 Texas, No. 18 California, No. 24 Virginia, Arizona, BYU, Fresno State, Kennesaw State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Texas A&M, UNLV, Utah, UTEP, and Washington.
 
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar men will be freshman Aaron Whalen, sophomore Derek Bayley, freshman AJ Armstrong, sophomore Zach Anderson, and junior Nick Mandell.
 
LAST TIME AT THE JOHN A. BURNS INTERCOLLEGIATE: WSU finished 10th (+27, 891) in a field of 17 teams, seven strokes back Pac-12 competitor Arizona…Bayley and redshirt-senior Sang Lee tied for 27th at 6-over par (222) after each recorded strong third rounds…senior Michael Anderson finished three strokes back of Bayley and Lee to tie for 43rd (+9, 225)
 
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished fifth (+32, 884) behind several ranked opponents at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 29-30…Whalen led the team with an 11th-place finish at 3-over par (216), 14 strokes back of tournament champion Beau Hossler of Texas (-11, 202)… Armstrong and Mandell tied for 28th (+9, 222)…Bayley and Anderson tied for 38th (+11, 224) and finished in 76th (+26, 239), respectively.
 
COACHING STAFF:  The men's golf team is led by fifth-year head coach Garrett Clegg…assisting Clegg is WSU alumnus Dustin White, a third-year assistant coach who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003.
