TUCSON, Ariz. – Led by sophomore Derek Bayley and freshman Aaron Whalen, the Washington State University men's golf team is in 8th place (+24, 542) before the rest of the second round of play was postponed due to darkness at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Friday at the Sewailo Golf Club.

Washington and Texas, in first and second place, are the only two teams that are under par. California rounds out the top three. Trailing Utah by one stroke, but leading Arizona by seven, WSU is competing well against a talented Pac-12 group.

“I think everyone feels like they have strokes that got away,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “We are not far off from a very solid finish.”

After combining for over half of the team's first-round birdies, Bayley and Whalen are tied for 23rd with a two-round score of 136 (+5). Freshman AJ Armstrong is tied for 29th after shooting 6-over par (133) on the day.

Junior Nick Mandell is currently tied for 51st. Sophomore Zach Anderson is tied for 68th.

“Tomorrow we need to be better on the greens and clean up our decision making,” Clegg said. “I'm looking forward to another day and seeing how we compete tomorrow.”

The second and third rounds begin Saturday at 7:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. MT. Check birdiefire.com for live results. A full recap will be posted at wsucougars.com following the round.
