SEATTLE-- Washington State's Liz Harper won the women's high jump at the UW Preview Indoor meet Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle.

Harper, a junior from Missoula, Mont., won the high jump with a clearance at 5-feet, 8 3/4 inches (1.75m), and later in the day took seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds.

"I thought the meet went really well,” WSU Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Wayne Phipps said from Seattle. “Our entire team trained through this meet, so everybody came into it pretty tired. That being said, we still had some great performances."

The WSU women made their presence felt in the field events. Kianna Davis was the runner-up in the high jump with a PR clearance at 5-8 3/4 (1.75m), and later in the day took fifth in the triple jump with another PR mark of 39-4 1/2 (12.00m). Lateah Holmes finished fifth in the high jump with a clearance at 5-5 (1.65m), just off her PR clearance by an inch and a half. Redshirt sophomore Greer Alsop was the runner-up in the triple jump with a PR distance of 41-1/4 (12.50m), while Kayla Warren took sixth with a mark of 39-4 (11.99m). The triple jump winner was Cougar alum Blessing Ufodiama, a professional competing unsponsored, with a leap of 43-5 (13.23m).

In men's field, Thane Pierson finished tied for fourth in the high jump after clearing the bar at 6-10 3/4 (2.10m). Austin Sodorff pole vaulted a height of 15-9 1/4 (4.81m), finishing seventh.

Terrance Chambers finished fourth in the 200m with a time of 22.14. Freshman Ja'Maun Charles finished sixth in the 400m dash in a time of 49.16.

Dominique Keel finished sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 56.39, and finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 24.78.

In the men's 60m hurdles, C.J. Allen finished fourth with a PR time of 8.16, and later in the day finished third in the 600m run with a time of 1:18.78. Matthew Swanson, running unattached, finished fourth in the 600m with a time of 1:18.96. In the 800m run, freshman Reid Muller placed fifth with a time of 1:54.23.

"Our high jumpers, particularly Liz Harper and Kiana Davis, had great days," Phipps said. "Greer Alsop in the triple jump also had a fantastic opener. Dominique Keel had a great double as well, in the 200 and 400. On the men's side, C.J. Allen beat an awesome field in a tactical race in the 600, after setting a huge personal best in the 60-meter hurdles. I was also very impressed by John Whelan, who ran a great mile despite being in a very high-volume training block."

In Moscow at the Idaho Invitational, a small contingent of Cougars tallied two individual victories. Sophomore Brock Eager notched a personal-best mark and took the win in the 35-pound weight throw at 58-4 3/4 (17.80m). Junior McKenna Hogan took the win in the women's long jump with an opener of 17-3 1/4 (5.26m).

Junior Dino Dodig was WSU's lone collegiate competitor at the Ed Jacoby Invitational in Boise, Idaho. He won the heptathlon at the meet by a comfortable margin at 5,464 points. Dodig's heptathlon marks were: 60m dash in time of 7.24, long jump distance of 22-2 1/4 (6.76m), shot put throw of 40-6 3/4 (12.36m), high jumped 6-5 (1.96m), ran the 60m hurdles in a PR time of 8.31, pole vaulted 14-11 (4.55m) and ran the 1000m in 2:43.71. WSU assistant coach, Canadian Olympian Angela Whyte, won the women's 60m hurdles in a time of 8.19 after running the prelims in 8.15.

The Cougars track and field teams host the WSU Open Indoor Track and Field meet Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23, at the WSU Indoor Facility.
