Bashota, Huynh Garner ITA Rankings

Sophomore Donika Bashota is ranked No. 83 in ITA national rankings.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University sophomore Donika Bashota earned a national ranking while she and senior Trang Huynh received regional rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced recently.

Bashota, from Lidkoping, Sweden, earned a No. 83 national ranking in the first spring ranking of the season. She also came in with a No. 6 Northwest Region ranking after finishing the 2015 fall season with a 15-1 record. Bashota captured three tournament titles, including the Cougar Classic, along with the BYU and WSU Invitationals.  Bashota concluded her fall campaign by reaching the round of 16 at the 2015 ITA Northwest Regional.

Huynh, a native of Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam, garnered a No. 15 regional ranking following her first fall season of competition. Huynh posted an 11-6 record, reaching the semifinals of the Cougar Classic and BYU Invitational, and concluding the fall by reaching the Round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regional.

In doubles, the Cougar duo of Bashota and senior Lize Leenknecht finished the fall with a No. 9 regional ranking. The pair combined for an 8-1 record, including tournament titles at the Cougar Classic and BYU Invitational.

The Cougars will open their 2016 dual match schedule Jan. 15 with matches against Montana State and Idaho. Both matches with be held at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse, with Montana State beginning at 11 a.m. and Idaho at 5 p.m.
