PULLMAN, Wash. – Former Washington State women's basketball guard Tia Presley has signed a contract to play professional basketball in Israel beginning this fall.
Presley will play for Maccabi Bnot Ashdod out of Ashdod, Israel in the Ligat Ha'al, the top division of women's basketball in the country. The team is the defending league champion, having lost just one game during the 2014-15 season. Presley will move to Israel in late September ahead of league competition beginning in late October.
“I'm looking forward to being a part of another great organization,” Presley said. “I can't wait to represent the Cougs in Israel. I'm so thankful for the love and support I've been given from everyone in the Cougar community.”
In her time at WSU, Presley was a three-time All-Pac-12 Conference selection. She appeared in 105 games and made 99 starts, seventh-most in school history. The Spokane, Wash., native scored 1,541 points in her career, third-most in school history and had the fifth-highest career scoring average in school history (14.7 ppg). Presley also ranks third in program history in made free throws (358), seventh in field goals (537), 10th in 3-pointers (109), and 10th in steals (186).
Presley is not the first Cougar women's basketball alumna to compete in Israel. Former WSU guard Jazmine Perkins began her professional career in Israel with top-division team Ramat Sharon. Perkins currently plays in Bulgaria for Haskovo 2012.
Presley's signing continues a string of professional contracts for WSU alumnae. In addition to Perkins, former Cougar standouts Brandi Thomas (Spain), Sage Romberg (Spain), Ireti Amojo (Germany), and Rosetta Adzasu (Finland) are playing internationally.
